Pier 81
Project location: New York, NY
Client: New York Cruise Lines
Design/ Construction: 2016-
Projected Cost: NA
NPA has been working on a number or marine projects including several city as well as privately operated piers in New York City. New York Cruise Lines operates the popular Circle Line cruises, the New York Water Taxi as well as a number of dinner cruises from Piers 81 and 83 on Manhattan’s west side at 41-43rd Streets.
NPA has worked with New York Cruise Lines on a number of projects since 2016:
-As New York City’s underutilized piers are repurposed and rehabilitated, NYCL commissioned NPA to develop a conceptual master plan for Pier 81 to provide additional amenities for cruise customers using the Pier. The master plan proposed the addition of a restaurant and bar, an event space for pop-up shops, exhibitions, fashion shows, and a landscaped public plaza and green roof.
-Construction documents for a bar and green roof within the footprint of the existing covered walkway was developed and filed with the waterfront unit at NYC DSBS before the project was put on hold.
-NPA and Pennmax Engineering are in the process of obtaining a C of O for both Pier 81 and 83. The piers are owned by the Hudson River park Trust, a partnership between New York State and New York City; and leased by New York Cruise Lines.
