Circle line X/ XVI
Project location: New York, NY
Client: New York Cruise Lines
Design/ Construction: 2016-
Projected Cost: NA
Circle Line X is a historic boat designed in 1939 and built shortly after by the US Navy and serviced during World War II. The New York Cruise Lines purchased this historic boat and it was used for the Circle Line cruises. In 2016 NYCL commissioned NPA and its team to provide architectural and engineering services related to its proposed use as a permanently moored vessel for ticketing, waiting and concessions for Circle Line, the Beast and other cruise passengers.
The permanent mooring of the historic boat required approvals by the US Army Corps of Engineers, the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation and the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation. NPA and its team prepared design documents and filed for approval with the waterfront unit at NYC DSBS and the Mayor’s office of people with disabilities. During the course of filing with the waterfront unit at DSBS, the Circle Line X was damaged during a storm and was replaced by Circle Line XVI, a historic boat of the same period.
