Taiwan Tower Competition
Taiwan Tower Competition
Project location: Taichung, Taiwan
Design/ Construction: 2010
The design of the Taiwan Tower Complex including the Museum of Taichung City Development and offices for the Department of Urban Development, Taichung City Government, emerged from several parallel lines of inquiry:
- The history and geography of Taiwan; the location of Taichung in Central Taiwan; architectural precedents, both historical and contemporary; the site and its location relative to the city of Taichung, the port and Mount Dadu; its immediate context within the proposed master plan and relationship to the Central Park and the Cultural Business and Innovation R & D districts.
- The architectural evolution of the Tower typology, formal precedents and recent developments that posit the idea of the vertical city as a viable, sustainable alternative to urban sprawl.
- Sustainable Architecture as architecture that is innovative yet rooted in the deep structure of a place and encompasses cultural as well environmental sustainability and green architecture.
